work:space RNLI moves to High St cafe

Poole Missional Communities, the parent charity that runs work:space, has started running a community cafe on Poole High St. Called No34. It is situated opposite the site of the old Woolworths at the heart of Poole twon centre (www.facebook.com/No34Cafe) . Before Easter work:space RNLI met there for one session and the suggestion emerged to make it a regular venue. As a result this work:space is now open to anyone who would like to come. We meet from 1.15 – 1.45pm in the lovely first floor lounge above the cafe itself. If you feel the need for some silence and stillness at the end of busy working week do join us.

All 3 work:space in Barclays, Civic Centre and RNLI are up and running regularly after a break over the summer. For details of each of these do contact the relevant person in each workplace:

We very much hope in the near future to be able to offer work:space groups in other workplaces in Poole. A number of places have approached us to explore this possibility. We are currently looking to identify and train people who might be able to do this. We are also aiming to offer a work:space day away at the beginning of next year. This will be a day at a centre near Poole with opportunity for silence, reflection and space. An ideal opportunity to get some perspective and direction on life and work at the beginning of a New Year. Details to follow soon…

RNLI Adult Learning week

work:space were asked to offer a session as part of the RNLI adult leaners week. We ran a session called ‘Rhythm…or Blues?’ Our experience in other workplaces in some cases is a process of intense relentless work and pressure leading to stress and lay-offs even depression. Then a return to the same pressure until something gives again. How can we introduce rhythm to our working lives that means there are margins that give space for rest, recreation, recuperation etc? How can prevent the corrosive effects of unending pressure and pace. The session drew on the story of creation in Genesis to explore the idea of rhythm in life and the importance of a rhythm of work and rest for us a human beings. The session ended with a short work:space taster – a time of stillness, meditation and contemplation on that wonderful passage about time from Eccelsiastes – ‘there is a time for everything under heaven a time to…’
